Is joint family a necessity

 Thinking of writing about this topic for a very long time. A family comprises of father, mother and children. All others are outsiders only. This includes all types of in laws. Jokes are made about MIL and DIL problems. And this real existing problem is never discussed about on a serious note. The mental agony which affects the physical well being too is never addressed. As my akka says, every Goundamani needs a Senthil. Or let us put it this way, every Tom needs a Jerry. We need someone always to boss about or to torture. MIL or DIL whoever is stronger in a family makes the other person's life a living hell.  Happened a month ago. My mom was ill and hospitalized. We were waiting outside the emergency room by midnight around 1 am. After rejected by 3 hospitals, this was the 4th hospital which consented to treat my mother. Driving through the dark city night, hospital after hospital - that's a story for another day. Coming back to the point - emergency rooms are unbounded by time I guess. Brimming with activities, nurses and attenders were fresh. I was totally numb - mentally too tired, banged by assortment of emotions. Two young men rushed in. One guy's index finger had an injury. A towel was wrapped around the wound.  Watched master movie. Vijay Sethupathi was simply awesome. One particular dialogue intrigued me. ஒரு வாத்திக்கு எப்டி இவ்ளோ தைரியம் வந்துச்சி. Here I have things to say about this. I'm a teacher and I chose this profession out of passion. Now do I enjoy being a teacher? I seriously doubt it. One thing I want to make very clear. Every theory has an exception. So if you're a teacher, you can feel free to think yourself as an exception.Teachers are cowards. Can they stand up for anything? No. They are a scared, clueless lot. They corner students, humiliate young children, show favoritism. And how they behave with their colleagues? My God. காட்டுக்குள்ள ஒரு பள்ளிக்கூடம்

 எமது கல்லூரியின் வேதியியல் துறை சார்பாக ஒவ்வொரு வருடமும் மாணவ மாணவிகள் நீலகிரி-வயநாடு, அம்பலமுலா பகுதியில் உள்ள ஆதிவாசிக்குழந்தைகளுக்கான பள்ளிக்குச் சென்று, அக்குழந்தைகளுக்கு பாடங்களை எளிய முறையில் கற்றுக்கொடுக்கும் பணியைச் செய்து வருகின்றனர். இவ்வருடம் பெருந்தொற்றுக்காரணமாக அங்கு செல்ல இயலவில்லை. எனவே எங்களது பேராசிரியர்கள் அப்பள்ளியில் பணியாற்றும் ஆசிரியர்களை எங்கள் கல்லூரிக்கு அழைத்து வந்து ஒரு பயிற்சிப் பட்டறையை நடத்தினர். இப்பயிற்சிப் பட்டறையில் கலந்து கொள்ளும் வாய்ப்பு எனக்குக் கிடைத்தது. ஆசிரியர்கள் தங்கள் அனுபவங்களையும், தாங்கள் சந்திக்கும் பிரச்சினைகளையும் எங்களோடு பகிர்ந்துகொண்டனர். அவை இங்கே. அவர்களது பள்ளி இருபாலினத்தவருக்குமான உண்டு உறைவிடப்பள்ளி. எட்டாம் வகுப்பு வரை உள்ளது. அவர்கள் சொல்வது – ஒரு ஆதிவாசிக்குழந்தை எந்தவொரு பொருளையும் அதன் விலை அடிப்படையில் மதிப்பதில்லை. அவன் ஒரு கால்பந்தை வைத்து விளையாடுவதை விட, சாதாரண குப்பியை வைத்து விளையாடவே விரும்புகிறான். ஒரு பேனாவையோ, புத்தகத்தையோ பத்திரப்படுத்தவேண்டும்...
